Breast Reduction in Santa Monica

Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammoplasty, is designed for such women. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.

In most cases, breast reduction isn't performed until a woman's breasts are fully developed; however, it can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort. The best candidates are those who are mature enough to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.

Your surgeon should describe the procedure in detail, explaining its risks and limitations and making sure you understand the scarring that will result. The surgeon should also explain the anesthesia he or she will use, the facility where the surgery will be performed, and the costs. (Some insurance companies will pay for breast reduction if it's medically necessary; however, they may require that a certain amount of breast tissue be removed. Check your policy, and have your surgeon write a "predetermination letter" if required.)

Breast reduction doesn't usually require a blood transfusion. However, if a large amount of breast tissue will be removed, your physician may advise you to have a unit of blood drawn ahead of time. That way, if a transfusion should be needed, your own blood can be used.

Your surgeon will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible. Still, it's important to remember that breast reduction scars are extensive and permanent. They often remain lumpy and red for months, then gradually become less obvious, sometimes eventually fading to thin white lines. Fortunately, the scars can usually be placed so that you can wear even low-cut tops.

West Palm Beach Breast Reduction

Incisions for a breast reduction are placed around the woman's areola in an effort to slide it into the proper position followed by the removal of extra sagging skin and breast tissue. Sometimes the incision may be limited to just around the areola. Other times it may involve an incision in the shape of an upside down T or anchor extending from the areola down the center portion of the breast and then into the inframammary fold. According to Dr. Pinsky, a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon, the amount of incisions are determined by the amount of lifting that is required.

Breast Lift Surgery Is Used By Cosmetic Surgeons To Raise And Reshape A Woman's Breasts

Breast lift surgery restores a more youthful appearance to a woman's breasts. Over years breasts can lose their shape and firmness due to weight changes, pregnancy, and nursing with loss of skin elasticity causing them to sag. A mastopexy or breast lift, will raise and reshape the breasts slowing the effects of aging and gravity. The procedure is also able to reduce the size of a woman's areola, which is the darker pigmented skin around the nipple. According to a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon, breast lift procedures are commonly performed in conjunction with a mammoplasty to increase breast fullness, firmness, and size. This would likely appeal to a woman who has lost breast volume after a pregnancy.

Breast Augmentation Offered By West Palm Beach Cosmetic Surgeon

Augmentation Mammoplasty is a surgical procedure used to enhance the shape and size of a woman's breasts. Some candidates may feel that their breast size is too small. Dr. Pinsky, a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon says, the procedure is also used for women following a pregnancy to restore volume to their breasts. Breast augmentation can also be performed to correct for differences in a woman's right and left breast size. There are sometimes patients that have different surgical goals, for example some women will want a more natural breast shape that is in proportion to their figure. Others prefer a more rounded shape in the upper pole of their breast somewhat larger than their proportionate figure. These goals are able to be achieved by using smaller or larger saline breast implants, and also by adjusting the fill volume for each individual implant. In the breast augmentation procedure, short incisions are placed in the inframammary fold, around the lower portion of the areola (pigmented portion of the nipple) or through the axilla.

Preparing For A Breast Augmentation Is Much Different Than Recovering From It

The recovery process for a breast augmentation is a lot different from that of the preparation process. When you are preparing, there were many things that you were able to do in order to change the course of events. During the recovery process, however, your body will do most of the work by itself, provided that you aren't expecting everything to quickly happen and also provided that you do not tamper with the body's "autopilot." According to a breast augmentation book, if you understand what the expect, what's normal, and a few of the reasons behind the do's and don'ts, you will make the recovery process much smoother.

The recovery process will be a team effort and will depend mostly on two key factors. What the surgeon does during surgery and how well you are able to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon after the surgery. The better your cosmetic surgeon performs, the less bleeding during the surgery, and the less trauma to your tissues. Also, the more closely that you follow the instructions of your plastic surgeon following the augmentation mammoplasty, the quicker you will be able to recover.

A More Positive Self Image May Be A Result Of Breast Surgery

Women who desire larger breasts may wish to have a breast enlargement (augmentation) procedure. Breast augmentation may also be indicated for women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other. Breast augmentation is intended to give the patient larger and more shapely breasts. A more positive self image may also be a result of breast enlargement. Breast enlargement is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. A small incision is made under the breast and a saline breast implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle. The patient goes home in an elastic bra. The bra helps hold the breasts in the correct position. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

There are Many Surgical Approaches for Breast Augmentation

There are a variety of surgical approaches for breast augmentation, which include inconspicuous incisions in the armpit, underneath the breast (just above the crease), around the areola or in the belly button. Most plastic surgeons can perform all of these approaches, but prefers the transaxillary approach. Referred to as a TransAxillary SubPectoral Augmentation (TASPA), this technique involves making a small incision in the armpit to place a breast implant beneath the chest wall muscle. Many plastic surgeons feel that a TASPA generally yields the most natural-looking result with minimal scarring.

Breast Reduction Aftercare Information

After breast reduction, you'll be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings. A small tube may be placed in each breast to drain off blood and fluids for the first day or two. You may feel some pain for the first couple of days-especially when you move around or cough-and some discomfort for a week or more.
The bandages will be removed a day or two after surgery, though you'll continue wearing the surgical bra around the clock for several weeks, until the swelling and bruising subside. Your stitches will be removed in one to three weeks. You may be up and about in a day or two, but your breasts may still ache occasionally for a couple of weeks. You should avoid lifting or pushing anything heavy for three or four weeks.
Although much of the swelling and bruising will disappear in the first few weeks, it may be six months to a year before your breasts settle into their new shape. Even then, their shape may fluctuate in response to your hormonal shifts, weight changes, and pregnancy.

Achieve a Proportional and Natural Appearance with Breast Augmentation

The goal of an aesthetic breast augmentation is to achieve a proportional and natural appearance. While some patients specifically ask for an "exaggerated" look, most want to look as natural as possible. Breast tissue is not altered by a breast enlarging procedure. This operation is performed by placing an implant behind your own breast tissue, simply pushing it forwards and enlarging the appearance of the breast. Most patients have been exceedingly pleased with this operative procedure.
The increase in breast size will be limited by the tightness of your skin but significant improvement is usually achieved. The final decision regarding implant size must be made by the surgeon during the operation, but size will be discussed with you before the procedure and every effort will be made to create an optimal breast for you.

Your Body Type is Important in Deciding Which Breast Implant is Right for You

Many plastic surgeons like to take into consideration the woman's body type when discussing the size and type of the breast implant. Height and body weight are certainly important elements to consider. The width of the shoulder and the chest wall have a very important barring on how a particular breast implant will look on a particular woman. The waistline is critical to the size of the breast implant plastic surgeons recommend. The goal is to create female curves that are elegant and pleasing, starting from the armpit, gently curving outwards and then back into the waistline. A well shaped breast is one that gives curves to a woman that is balanced with the waist and hips, without being distracting, uncomfortable and looking awkward in clothing.
